Man-Made Noise Evaluation for Cryogenic Receiver Front-End
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents measured results of manmade noise impact on an cryogenic receiver front-end (CRFE) in urban and suburban areas in the 2-GHz band with amplitude probability distribution (APD). The CRFE comprises a high-temperature superconducting filter, cryogenically-cooled low-noise amplifier, and highly-reliable cryostat. The CRFE is expected to be an effective and practical approach to attain efficient frequency utilization and to improve the sensitivity of mobile base station receivers. It is important to measure the characteristics of man-made noise in typical cellular base station antenna environments and confirm their impact on the CRFE reception with APD because if man-made noise has a stronger effect than thermal noise, the CRFE would fail to offer any improvement in sensitivity. The measured results suggest that the contribution of man-made noise in the 2GHz band can be ignored as far as Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) system is concerned. The manmade noise is also measured in the VHF-band for comparison with the 2-GHz band environment.

The C-Band All-Sky Survey is a project to map the full sky in total intensity and linear polarization at 5 GHz. The northern component of the survey uses a broad-band singlefrequency analogue receiver fitted to a 6.1-m telescope at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory in California, USA. The receiver architecture combines a continuous-comparison radiometer and a correlation polarimeter in a singl...
متن کاملA New Analog-based LO Harmonic Rejection Technique with Tunable Notch Frequency
An effective technique for mixer LO harmonic rejection in a SAW-less wideband receiver front-end is proposed. The proposed technique provides a tunable notch that can be placed at any frequency like mixer LO harmonics, to avoid the aliasing in baseband after mixing. An analog LC notch is used in a cascode transconductor, and it can reject one of the 3rd or 5th harmonics. T...

متن کاملA Noise-Temperature Measurement System Using a Cryogenic Attenuator
Accurate and rapid noise-temperature measurements are critical to the modeling and development of high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) cryogenically cooled amplifiers. Four different techniques have been used in the laboratory to make noise-temperature measurements of cryogenically cooled amplifiers, and each of these is described below. Following this, the cryogenic pad method, the method ...
